After-Fireworks Dessert Party – Part II

Once the show was over I made my way over to the place where I had entered the Plaza Garden and found the castmember holding up a lighted sign for the Dessert Party.  I, along with several other guests, then followed her back to Tommorrowland Terrace, where the party is held.  We then got in line to be checked in for the party a second time.  This process went quickly though and soon I was led by a castmember to my assigned table, which actually sat 4 so there was plenty of room.  My table was located along the back rail of this dining area so I had a view of the castle, though it was partially obstructed by trees.  This would come into play later.   Here’s a photo of this area that I found on the internet…

And a photo of my view…

Also on my way to the table I was offered a glass of Sparkling Apple Cider, which I accepted…

I was then off to explore the buffet.  Here is a reminder of what this buffet was to include (per the official Disney World website)…

Following their buffet description, let’s begin with the Freshly Prepared Treats.  First up, the Oreo “Mickey” Treats

Then the Happily Ever After Red Velvet Cupcakes

Strawberry Tarts

Cheesecake Brownie Bites

Pineapple Delight

An Assortment of Macarons (I think the flavors that were available that night were Chocolate, Lemon, Pistachio, Coffee, and Raspberry)…

And last in the Freshly Prepared Treats section were these Dark Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

All of those treats were also offered at the Dessert Party I attended in 2017.  However these three treats were missing this year…

Chocolate Marshmallow Tarts

Villains Chocolate Cupcakes

Chocolate Almond Cakes topped with raspberries

Although none of these missing treats were among my favorites last year, I was still surprised at first that they had cut back on the available options given the $10 price increase over last year.  However, after further consideration I realized that the Chocolate Marshmallow Tarts were replaced by a similar chocolate/marshmallow/graham cracker treat.  There were plain chocolate cupcakes added to the Decorate Your Own station so chocolate cupcake lovers were still covered.  And the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake blows the Chocolate Almond Cake out of the water.  Image result for laughing emoji

Now getting back to their party menu, next are the Seasonal Fruits and Flavorful Cheeses…

The fruit platter had the same selection as last year…melons, grapes, and pineapple. I did notice though that the watermelon seemed to be the seedless variety whereas last year it had seeds.  A small improvement but still an improvement.

The cheese selection was also the same as last year with cheddar, swiss, colby-jack, and pepper jack cheese cubes…

Now for some of the additions this year, starting with the most important one.  My favorite Magic Kingdom dessert (which is served at Liberty Tree Tavern), the Ooey-Gooey Toffee Cake

They had a big pan of this delicious ooey-gooey dessert.  I have just three words…Oh, My, God!!

Ok, recovering now from that Ooey-Gooey memory and moving on to the next thing on their list, which was the Action Station S’mores.  At this station a castmember would take a marshmallow on a stick…

Toast it for a bit…

Then roll it first in chocolate pieces…

And then in crushed graham crackers…

Next up from the list are Savory snacks, like House-made Mini Taco Egg Rolls and Spinach Dip and Crackers.  Instead of Taco Egg Rolls they had Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

And here is the Spinach Dip and Crackers

Next the Cookie Table with assorted cookies, cupcakes and other sweet treats…

There was colored frosting with which to frost your cupcake and an assortment of other toppings.  These toppings could also be used on a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream

While last year they had most of those Cookie Table offerings plus the ice cream, I don’t think they had the Rice Krispie Treats or Brownies.  Also they added chocolate cupcakes to the Decorate Your Own station.  Last year they had only white/vanilla ones.

Now for the Beverages.  I’ve already covered the Sparkling Apple Cider, so I’ll start with the Hot Beverage options of Hot Cocoa and Hot Water to make tea…

There was a box of assorted Twinings Tea bags to choose from…

Then there was Coffee, both regular and decaffeinated…

Then for Cold Beverages there was POG Juice (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava Juice) and Lemonade (both regular and I think strawberry?)…

Iced Tea (mislabeled as Coffee in my photo), Milk, and Ice Water…

I loved the not so hidden Mickeys in the water…

The only non-alcoholic beverage that is missing here is soda.  At other dessert parties I’ve attended they have cans of soda available.

Ok, now for my choices.  I started with a cup of Hot Chocolate and of course a bowl of Ooey-Gooey Toffee Cake topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream…

And a close up shot…

This was soooo good!  It was even “ooeyer” and “gooeyer” (softer and warmer) than the original version served at Liberty Tree Tavern.  The hot chocolate though tasted like warm chocolate water but the dessert made me so happy that I didn’t really care.

After finishing my cake and ice cream I returned to the buffet for this plate of savory snacks…

I really liked the cheeseburger egg roll, so much so that I returned for a couple more.  I suspect that they are the same cheeseburger egg rolls that are served at the Egg Roll cart in Adventureland, although I’ve never had one from there.  The cheese was good, but the spinach dip was just okay.  I’ve had better.

My third trip to the buffet was for more desserts…

Though the chocolate covered strawberry and red velvet cupcake were both good, my favorites were the cheesecake brownie bite and the s’more on a stick.  I really enjoyed both of these.

So, with the exception of the spinach dip and the hot chocolate, everything that I tried was good here.  My favorites were the Ooey-Gooey Toffee Cake and Cheeseburger Egg Rolls, which were both additions since last year’s party.  I also really liked another addition, the S’more on a stick, plus my favorite from last year, the Cheesecake Brownie Bite was again a hit for me.

An unexpected bonus that I received due to the location of my assigned table is that I had somewhat of a view of the Once Upon a Time Castle Projection show which took place while I was at the dessert party.   This show took the place of Celebrate the Magic.

Here are two photos of the view which I had while seated at my table…

While I couldn’t see much of the projections on the castle because of the trees, I could see the fireworks and hear the music.  Unfortunately though I believe this show is mostly about the projections on the castle, with just a few fireworks thrown in here and there.

So overall I would say that this experience is still worth its cost for me, even with the $10 price increase.  With the addition of the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake (which costs $8.00 at Liberty Tree Tavern) and the Cheeseburger Egg Rolls (which cost $7.50 for two at the Adventureland Egg Roll Cart…I had 3 though), I definitely got my extra $10 worth of food.  With the ability to get a better position within the Plaza Garden for viewing Happily Ever After plus being able to relax and take my time to enjoy the party, I much preferred attending the party after the show.
