Ample Hills Creamery (Permanently Closed March 2020)

I thought my first-ever visit to the Boardwalk’s Ample Hills Creamery in October 2016 was going to be more for reconnaissance purposes, as I was still full from my lunch around the booths with Paula and Hunter.  But then I saw all of the delicious looking ice cream choices in their display case and I came down with a bad case of “my eyes being bigger than my stomach.”  In my defense, just look at some of their unusual ice cream flavors…

Nonna D’s Oatmeal Lace Ice Cream (Dark Brown Sugar Cinnamon Ice Cream with Housemade Oatmeal Lace Cookies)

Left: Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (Vanilla Bean Ice Cream made with Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Beans) and Right: Malty Salty Pretzel Punch Ice Cream (Vanilla Malted Ice Cream with Chocolate-covered Pretzel Pieces)

Left: Sweet Cream n’ Cookies Ice Cream (Sweet Cream Ice Cream with pieces of Back-To-Nature Sandwich Creme Cookies) and Right: Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream (Vanilla Ice Cream made with Cream Cheese and gobs of House-made St. Louis-Style Ooey Gooey Butter Cake)

This one looked really good…

PB Wins the Cup Ice Cream (Vanilla Ice Cream with Peanut Butter Chocolate flakes and House-made Peanut Butter Cups)

And in keeping with the Boardwalk theme…

Left: Sally Sells Seashells Ice Cream (Fresh and Fluffy Orange Marshmallow Ice Cream with House-made Salty Chocolate Seashells) and Right: Cotton Candy Ice Cream (100% All-Natural Blue Cotton Candy Ice Cream made with no Artificial Colors of Flavors)

So when choosing my ice cream flavor(s), I asked for the advice of the nice girl who was working behind the counter.  She said their most popular choice was the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream and then recommended a few flavors to pair with it.  From these I chose this two scoop combination…

Along with the scoop of Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, I seem to have chosen a chocolate flavor.  I’m not sure but I think it was Dark Chocolate.  And in case you were wondering about the size, this large two-scoop cup was actually a small, which was the smallest option that was available here.  I don’t really remember the chocolate flavor, but I do know that the Ooey Gooey Butter was super rich and buttery tasting.  It was so rich, that I couldn’t eat more than a few bites and then sadly I had to pitch the rest.  I so wish they offered a smaller size, as I felt guilty wasting so much ice cream.    Instead of scoops this size…

I would have much preferred scoops this size (the size included in their 6 scoop Ice Cream Flights)…

And regarding their ice cream flights, I made a mental note to stop here for this on my next trip to Disney World (Dec. 2016).  I thought this 6 “small” scoop flight would be the perfect size for my two kids and me to share and a perfect way to try 6 more of their flavors.  Sadly though we never made it there, so I’ll have to wait until Fall before I try other flavors like PB Wins the Cup and Malty Salty Pretzel Punch.  And hopefully I’ll find someone to share one of the flights with.
