Captain’s Grille-3

May 2015 Trip Review

NO MACADAMIA PINEAPPLE PANCAKES FOR ME!

On Monday morning, May 18th, I was originally hoping for us all to have breakfast at one of my favorites, Kona Cafe. Yep, my plan was for an early breakfast there, which for me would definitely be Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes, followed by catching the monorail to Epcot, where we were spending the day. Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans. :worried: As soon as the kids saw our dining schedule, which included three days in a row of getting up early to have breakfast, they staged a protest. Three against one…I lost. :sad1: I thought about doing the Kona breakfast solo, but then decided to have breakfast somewhere closer to the Boardwalk. Hence, the idea was born of having breakfast across the lake at the Yacht Club’s…

I didn’t make an ADR but showed up at the restaurant’s opening time (7:30 a.m.) so did not have a problem with getting a table right away. I thought about just doing the buffet, but with a big lunch scheduled at Teppan Edo, I decided to instead order something from their A la Carte menu…

I was interested in trying three of their breakfast entrees, the French Toast, the Lobster Omelet, and the one which I ended up ordering…

Lemon-Ricotta Hotcakes with Blueberry Compote, Lemon Curd, and Savory Hash Browns

Here’s a close up shot of the pancakes…

Before giving my rating, I should first tell you that I’m not a big fan of lemon curd. It’s okay by itself, better when combined with the blueberry compote. Consequently I rated the pancakes only a 4, but am pretty confident in saying that those of you who are lemon curd fans would probably give these a 5. As for me, I still prefer the Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes at Kona Cafe. ;)

Since I’ll be staying at the Boardwalk again on my next trip, I plan to visit Captain’s Grille at least once, but maybe twice. Once to have either the French toast or Lobster omelet (has anyone had either of these?) and a second time to try the buffet. Oh, and speaking of the Captain’s Grille breakfast buffet, I have photos…

After finishing my breakfast I noticed that the room where the breakfast buffet spread is located was not busy. I had some time to kill before meeting up with the kids at Epcot’s International Gateway entrance so I checked with my server and he said it would be fine if I took photos of the buffet food. Therefore, I present to you some of the items which were offered at the Captain’s Grille breakfast buffet.

Starting with the fruit, there were both orange and grapefruit slices…

Pineapple and cantaloupe…

And grapes and honey dew melon…

Then there was smoked salmon, cream cheese, and sliced tomatoes…

Toppings of capers, red onion, and chopped hard boiled eggs, plus whole eggs…

The yogurts (plain, strawberry, and vanilla), cottage cheese, and seasonal fruit compote…

For pastries and breads, they had bread pudding…

Mini-muffins, these were chocolate chip but they had others…

Cinnamon rolls…

Croissants…

Banana bread…

And chocolate swirl pastries…

Then some of the hot food offerings, starting with biscuits and gravy…

Baked tomato gratin, which looked delicious…

I believe this was a potato casserole topped with parmesan cheese…

The breakfast meats of grilled turkey sausage, pork sausage, and bacon…

Some egg dishes, including these mini-frittatas made with egg whites, spinach, and onion, topped with diced tomato…

Not really sure about this one, but looks like all veggies in these…

I think these had both yellow and white cheddar cheese along with maybe ham???…[IMG]

And of course, scrambled eggs…

Then there was French toast…

Which could be topped with Bananas Foster sauce…

Pancakes…

Along with several toppings…

And last but not least, there were of course, Mickey waffles!!

I’m sure I missed some items, but hopefully this gives you an idea of what you might find at the Captain’s Grille breakfast buffet.:thumbsup2
