Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’

My first ever (and only other) visit to Homecomin’ was not a successful one.  Due to the positive reviews and appealing menu, it was a meal that my friends and I had been greatly looking forward to.  But we were disappointed with the service, as well as most of the many foods we tried.  However, in the year between that visit and this trip I continued to hear great things about Homecomin’ so I decided to give it another try.

So did I regret giving Homecomin’ a do over?  Let’s find out, shall we?

I was seated on their enclosed deck…

…which was actually pretty nice.  There were only a few other guests seated out there so it was quiet and relaxing.

Here was the menu as of Nov. 2017…

Although they had an interesting cocktail menu (Moonshine Menu), I went with just Sweet Tea

This was the Sweet Tea sans moonshine and not the Sweet Tea Shine listed on their menu board…

Now on to the food.  On my previous visit I’d tried (and was disappointed by) the Art’s Famous Fried Chicken.  I wanted to give the chicken another try but change it up a bit so this time I went with the…

Fried Chicken Salad with Mixed Greens, Chopped Hard-Boiled Eggs, Three kinds of Heirloom Tomatoes, Sliced Cucumber, and Cheddar Biscuit Croutons, served with Icebox Dressing (Buttermilk Ranch)

A little closer view…

And one with the dressing…

This salad was truly delicious!  There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about it…even the fried chicken was perfect this time.

I also wanted to give these another try so ordered them as a side dish…

Cheddar Cheese Drop Biscuits

And another look…

I wasn’t expecting there to be so many.  There were at least 6 biscuits in this basket.  I had one with my salad (it too was delicious) and took the rest of them home with me to share with my husband over the next few days.  Even leftover and reheated these biscuits were great!

Despite the fact that I was full, there were two desserts from their menu that I had been wanting to try…

Both the Hummingbird and Shine Cake sounded great but I knew I needed to choose just one…

Hummingbird Cake – Pineapple-Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, Served with a Seasonal Fruit Gastrique and a Scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

And another look…

This was a slice of heaven!  A huge slice of heaven!  I ate a small piece of this along with the ice cream and then had them box up the rest of the cake to take home.  I also shared this with my husband and he too loved it, even though (with the exception of carrot cake) he does not like cake.

As for the service, like the food it too was much improved from my last visit to Homecomin’.  Therefore, this final meal turned out to be one of the best, if not the best of my trip and I was very glad that I gave Homecomin’ a second chance.

So that just leaves the ratings and rankings.  Based only on this meal, I would rate Homecomin’ a perfect 5.   Yelp reviewers though rated it a 4 but on Trip Advisor Homecomin’ received a rating of 4 1/2.  It also ranks pretty high on Trip Advisor, coming in at #95 of the more than 3,000 Orlando area restaurants reviewed there.  And narrowing it to just the Disney World area restaurants, Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ ranks an impressive #23.
