Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Lunch – March 2025

Our lunch reservation on Sunday, March 23rd was for 2:15, so I knew that we would only be able to choose food from their lunch menu. On Saturdays and Sundays Homecomin’ has a very popular brunch (with a dedicated brunch menu) that is served from 9:30 – 1:00 p.m. You are also able to order from their lunch menu starting at 11:00 on these days, so from 11:00 – 1:00 on Saturdays and Sundays you have many more options. But I knew that not only were we needing to pack up and check out of our hotel on this morning but we also had to make a run to the airport to pick up more people from our group. So because of this and also because we had had brunch here during our 2024 trip, I decided to have lunch this time instead.

We arrived right on time for our reservation and were asked if we wanted to be seated inside or outside. We opted to sit outside since we had enjoyed sitting outside last time we were here (it was much quieter than dining inside), plus the weather that day was very nice. Less than 5 minutes later the two of us were seated at a large, round table which would easily seat 5 or 6.

I forgot to take a photo of their lunch menu, but I believe it was pretty much the same as what can currently be found online.

For drinks, Don just had water but I decided to try their Sweet Tea for $5.25. Unfortunately this was way too sweet for me, even though I generally like sweet, sugary drinks. I had to wait for the ice to melt and dilute some of the sweetness before I could drink it. So even though a free refill was offered, I declined.

For our food, we chose three things to share, starting with the…

Fried Chicken Salad – Crispy fried chicken over mixed greens, pecan-smoked bacon, sliced hard-boiled egg, heirloom cherry tomatoes, red onion, and cucumber slices tossed with icebox dressing and topped with house-made croutons and fresh herbs – $20.00 (Currently the price is $22.00 as of May 2026)

I had had this salad previously (maybe more than once) and enjoyed it and I enjoyed it again this time. Although I wished it had had a little more fried chicken (since we were sharing), the salad did have plenty of protein with the addition of the bacon bits and egg slices. The highlights of this salad for me was the tasty bacon and the icebox dressing, which was a buttermilk-based ranch-style dressing that perfectly complemented the other ingredients of the salad. Don and I both gave the Fried Chicken Salad a rating of 4.

Our second choice was the famous…

Thigh High Chicken Biscuits – Three biscuits with Chef Art’s famous fried chicken thighs and bread and butter pickles. Drizzled with hot honey. – $20.00 (same price as of May 2026)

People rave about these in their online reviews so I was really looking forward to having them. But of course, as what often happens when you have high expectations, I was very disappointed. The biscuits immediately crumbled into pieces from the weight of the chicken as soon as you picked up the sandwich. The chicken was also rather tough and chewy. So these ended up being a sticky (from the honey) mess and very difficult to eat. I wished I would have just ordered the plain cheddar drop biscuits, that I love…almost as much as the complimentary cheddar bay biscuits you are served at Red Lobster. But anyway, we gave the Thigh High Chicken Biscuits a rating of only 2.

And last, but certainly not least, we shared this side dish…

Momma’s Mac and Cheese – $10.00 (same price as of May 2026)

This had a perfectly baked layer of cheese on top and a wonderful, ooey-gooey cheese pull below…

This was excellent mac & cheese and deserved a perfectly excellent rating of 5.

So as the Meatloaf song goes, “Two out of three ain’t bad.” And based on my other previous dining experiences here, I would definitely return to Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ and would recommend this restaurant to others who enjoy good ‘ole Southern-style comfort food at reasonable prices.
