Chef Mickey’s Breakfast

November 3, 2016

After arriving at Chef Mickey’s about 10 minutes early and checking in for my reservation, I waited for just a short time to be seated.  It was just long enough to see one monorail pass through…

Once seated at a two-top table…

…I waited for my server to come take my beverage order of both orange juice and coffee.  While waiting I took a few photos of my surroundings, starting with the cute Mickey basket on my table which held the salt & pepper shakers plus an assortment of sweetener packets…

Then I was off to the buffet line with my camera in hand.  I started with the Breads/Cereal/Pastry section, where they had Assorted Bagels and Cream Cheese…

Both Plain and Multi-grain Croissants…

Three kinds of Cereal (Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, and Fruit Loops)…

Not sure if you can call this cereal but nonetheless, they had a mound of Rice Krispie Treats in this section of the buffet…

For pastries, there were Chocolate Croissants…

Cinnamon Rolls…

Both Cheese Danish…

…and Raspberry Danish.

These were called Strawberry Cakes, but looked kind of like a turnover to me…

There were also Mini-Muffins (or they called them “Minnie” Muffins ;) )…

Cheese Blintzes with fruit toppings…

And Krispy Kreme Donut Holes…

Next I took a few photos in the cold section of the buffet line, starting with Smoked Salmon & Trout plus accompaniments…

Sliced Tomatoes, Hard-boiled Eggs…

And a Quinoa Salad…

In the Fruit area of this section, there was this Melon and Pineapple Salad…

A Grapefruit and Orange Salad…

Also Red Grapes, Pears…

…and Strawberries.

Now for some photos from the Hot Foods section, starting with the three Potato choices.

There were Roasted Potatoes…

Tater Tots…

…and Cheesy Potato Casserole.

And the Egg choices, starting with Scrambled Eggs…

Ham & Cheese Frittata…

…and Italian Frittata.

Then some miscellaneous items, like Biscuits and Sausage Gravy…

Tofu Scramble with Spinach…

Oven-roasted Turkey Hash….

…and Corned Beef Hash.

Then the Meats, starting with Pork Sausage Links…

Hickory-smoked Bacon…

Kielbasa…

…and Ham was being served at the Carving Station.

And now for my choices…

Let’s begin with my small plate…

The cinnamon roll was nothing special.  The Rice Krispie treat was a little dry, but I was impressed that these were even offered here for breakfast.    The Krispie Kreme donut hole was good, as was the cheese danish.

And on my big plate…

The grapes and tater tots were fine.  The ham & cheese frittata was good, but the Italian frittata with the Italian sausage, red pepper, onion, etc. was more flavorful and therefore the better of the two.  However, the star of this plate was the cheesy hash brown casserole.

I’d heard rave reviews of this and I was not disappointed.  Very tasty!

Then I returned to the buffet to get my Mickey waffle…

And while these plain Pancakes looked pretty good…

The Chocolate Chip Pancakes that were currently being freshly made on the grill looked even better…

The finished product…

So I took both a Mickey waffle and chocolate chip pancake, plus I threw in a strawberry just to add something healthy

I hadn’t had a chocolate chip pancake in quite awhile.  This one was pretty good and the smaller size was just the right amount for me.

I still though preferred the Mickey waffle…

And that just leaves the characters.  This is the only character meal at Disney World that has the Fab 5, starting with #1 Donald Duck…

Pluto…

Minnie…

…and last but not least, the star of this show, Chef Mickey!

Sadly, though I did see him walking around in other areas of the restaurant, Goofy never made it to my table.  I also saw Goofy during the Napkin Waving Character Parade that occurs here every so often (I think twice during the time I was there).  However, I only got a photo of Mickey…

So overall, the food that I tried here was pretty good.  Of the three character breakfasts I had during this trip (Garden Grill, ‘Ohana, and Chef Mickey’s), the food came in second best behind Garden Grill.  Comparing it to the food at other Disney World character buffet breakfasts I’ve had, I would have to say that I still prefer Crystal Palace and Tusker House over Chef Mickey’s.  However, I enjoyed the food here more than at Cape May Café.  As far as characters though, if you are looking to get photos with and/or autographs from all of the Fab 5 in one place without having to stand in long lines, then Chef Mickey’s is the place!  :thumbsup2
