Contempo Cafe Lunch Review – March 2025

Sadly I have to begin this Contempo Cafe review with a big negative. Though we placed our mobile order as soon as we got back to the Contemporary (shortly after noon) for a pick up time soon after that, we were still sitting there waiting outside the restaurant a 1/2 hour later. Lucy was hungry when we placed our order and 1/2 hour later she had reached “hangry” status. She wanted her Uncrustables PB&J and she wanted it NOW!!! So I tracked down a castmember to inquire about our order and found that our order was missing, though I had a receipt. for it. I’m not sure whether someone else had accidentally picked up our order (though I hadn’t been notified that it was ready) or that there had been a glitch in their mobile order system (the more likely scenario). So anyway, she promised that our order would be prepared ASAP. But it still took at least 15 min. to prepare our large order. Finally I got the notification that our order was ready and went to retrieve the bag from from the self-serve shelf for To-Go orders. NOTE: There was only one bag there with my name on it. We then went back to our room to eat our lunch and much to my frustration I found that the bag only included the hot items of our order…we were missing the bag with our desserts and more importantly, Lucy’s PB&J. UGH! The poor little girl was starving at this point! We broke out fries from our order to hold her over while I made the trek back to the Contemporary Main Tower building (4th floor) from our room at the far end of the Garden Wing. I went back to the shelf where I had picked up the first bag of our order and there it was…Bag #2. Why they hadn’t placed both bags there before notifying me that our order was ready, I don’t know. I just know that this whole mobile order process ended up taking a very long time, making this quick service lunch anything but quick.

Ok, that’s it for my rant. Now on to our food, starting with Andrew’s choice…

Chili-Cheese Mini Corn Dogs – Corn Dog Nuggets covered in House-made Chili, Queso, Mustard, and Green Onions – $10.99

Andrew didn’t look at the menu himself before choosing this. I had made some suggestions of things I thought he might like and he heard only “Mini Corn Dogs” and not that they were loaded with chili and cheese. Knowing that he would be boarding a plane for the trip home in just a few hours, he was a bit leery of eating much of this. Especially with his somewhat sometimes stomach. So he picked out some of the nuggets and left behind most of the toppings. Andrew ended up rating this only a 2. Oh, and btw, these are currently not on the menu at Contempo Cafe (as of May 2026).

Don’s order was a bit better than that…

‘Chicago-style’ Italian Beef Sub – Shaved Italian Beef, Mozzarella, Giadiniera and Seasoned Au Jus – $13.99

This was served with your choice of Vegetable Slaw, French Fries or House-made Chips, which was what he chose. While the sub was pretty good and he gave it a rating of 3 1/2, the chips were even better and received a rating of 4 from all of us, as he was kind enough to share a few. This sandwich is also not on their current menu, however they have a similar one that’s called Roast Beef Sub. The description is Shaved Beef, Mozzarella, Provolone, Peppers, and Onions on a Crusty Baguette for the same price as this one was.

Allison and I shared this…

Four-Cheese Patty Melt – Four-Cheese Grilled Cheese, Beef Burger Patty, Caramelized Onions, and Patty Melt Sauce – $13.99

This is the only one of our entrees that is still on the current Contempo Cafe menu (as of May 2026) and it’s the same price. I’m not surprised to see that it is still offered because it was the best of our entrees. It was very good and likely a popular choice among guests. Allison and I rated the Patty Melt a solid 4. However the French Fries that we chose for our side were just okay and we gave them only a 3. We all agreed that the House-made Chips were the better side choice.

As for Lucy’s Uncrustables PB&J, I didn’t take the time to get a photo but I’m sure you know what this Smucker’s pre-packaged, crustless PB&J pocket sandwich looks like. Of note though is that at the time it was not listed on their online menu but was on their Mobile Order menu and the price was $6.79. Currently I don’t see it on either menu so I’m not sure if the Contempo Cafe still has them. If I remember I’ll see if they have any in their To-go refrigerator case when I’m at the Contemporary during our upcoming trip and report back on this review.

And that just leaves our two desserts. Unfortunately I didn’t remember to get photos of these before they had started to be eaten, which is a huge failure for a food blogger. However, I do have a photo of one these because we had gotten it during our trip the year before…

Monorail S’mores Brownie – Fudgy Brownie with a Graham Cracker Crust topped with Marshmallow Creme and Chocolate Decor – $5.99

The price had increased from the previous year when it was $5.79 but it still looked and tasted the same. Though these cute themed desserts typically don’t taste as good as they look, this dessert is a surprising exception. We had previously given this a rating of 4 and noted that t was the best of several specialty Contempo Cafe cookies/desserts that we tried last year. We again enjoyed this dessert and gave it a rating of 4. So kudos to the Contempo for having this consistently very good dessert. Unfortunately though, after having this monorail themed cupcake for years, this no longer appears on their website or the mobile order app. And they don’t seem to have replaced it with anything similar. So booooo!

Our other dessert was surprisingly good as well. Here is a screenshot of it…

Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums Cupcake – Chocolate Cupcake topped with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Mousse – $6.79

This again was quite tasty and received a rating of 4 from our group. Sadly though I see they have made some changes to this cupcake. First, it’s no longer called a Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums Cupcake, instead it’s just called a Dark and Milk Chocolate Mousse Cupcake. Though it still is decorated with The Incredibles theme (no longer orange though), I guess it can’t keep the Cookie Num Nums name since there doesn’t appear to be any cookie dough involved. Also the price of this cupcake is $.50 more, at $7.29. So boooo, yet again!

Even though we are again staying at the Contemporary resort for most of our upcoming trip, I’m not sure that we will be eating at the Contempo Cafe again. While there were a few good items from our lunch there, two of these (the desserts) seem to be gone. So I’m kind of thinking about taking the short monorail ride to the Polynesian to try out Capt. Cook’s for dinner on one of our evenings. Stay tuned to see if my goal is accomplished.
