We had dinner at Fonda San Miguel (located at 2230 W. North Loop Blvd.) on Thanksgiving eve 2015.

We were greeted by this large, colorful dragon statue in the lobby of this beautiful Mexican restaurant…

As for the food, we tried five different entrees between the six of us.  My husband ordered the Conchinita Pibil – a Yucatan specialty of pork baked in a banana leaf

Both daughters went with the Mixiote – slow-cooked seasoned lamb in a papillote (paper wrapper)…

My son ordered what I think is the Pollo en Mole Poblano – Baked one-quarter chicken in the traditional mole of Puebla...

And my choice was the Chicken Enchiladas Suizas…

Also my niece (an Austin resident) ordered her usual Fonda San Miguel favorite, the Ancho Relleno San Miguel – Chile ancho filled with chicken, olives, capers and almonds in a light cilantro cream sauce.  Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo though.

Everything was good, but nothing really stands out in our minds as outstanding.  However, my niece always gets the same entree here, which is unusual for her, so that says something.

Our overall rating for our dinner at Fonda San Miguel is 3 1/2 stars out of 5.  This got a better rating of 4 1/2 stars by Trip Advisor reviewers and currently ranks #24 best of the Austin restaurants reviewed.  On Yelp Fonda San Miguel has received 4 stars and ranks #210 on their top 1000 list of Austin’s best restaurants.
