Six of us met at Forthright (located at 35 Brazos Street) for Saturday brunch in September 2016. Between the 6 of us we tried 5 different brunch entrees, but first a couple of us enjoyed a Bloody Mary…
Now for our entree choices…
Chicken and Waffles – Buttermilk waffles, crispy fried chicken, salted caramel butter, and maple syrup
This was good. The chicken was chicken breast strips, which was good, and the salted caramel butter was very tasty.
Eggs Benedict – English muffin, poached eggs. Hollandaise sauce, and crispy pork belly
Another good choice!
Chicken Eggs Benedict – fried chicken, poached eggs, hollandaise, pickled peppers
This wasn’t as good as the other eggs benedict.
Buttermilk waffles with salted caramel butter, maple syrup and fresh fruit
The waffles were just okay.
Forthright waffle sandwich with smoked bacon, Gruyere cheese, over easy egg
This wasn’t so good, too dry.
So overall only 2 out of 5 of our entrees were good. However, I will be generous and rate our brunch a 3. This is significantly lower than the Yelp reviewers’ 4 1/2 star rating (Ranked #57) and also lower than Trip Advisor’s 4 stars. Forthright is ranked only #633 of all restaurants reviewed on Trip Advisor though, so I guess that might be a better indication.
