Hopdoddy Burger Bar

I’ve been to Hopdoddy twice during my four most recent trips to Austin.  The first time we had lunch at the one on South Congress.

The line was relatively short (I’ve seen it much longer).  The four of us ordered a couple of milkshakes to share…

Nutella & Chocolate Pretzel and Caramel & Sea Salt Milkshakes

Both were delicious, but I’m partial to the Caramel & Salt one.

For our sandwiches, my husband had the Classic Burger with Tillamook cheddar cheese and bacon added…

My choice was the…

Thunderbird  –  Chicken, Tillamook Pepper Jack, Apple-Smoked Bacon, Avocado, Seared Poblanos, Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Mayo, Red Leaf Lettuce

My daughter had the…

Greek – Lamb, Feta Cheese, Arugula, Pickled Red Onions, Beefsteak Tomato, Tzatziki Sauce

And my son’s choice was the…

Llano Poblano – Angus Beef, Apple-Smoked Bacon, Tilamook Pepper Jack, Seared Poblanos, Chipotle Mayo, Red Leaf Lettuce, White Onion, Beefsteak Tomato

All of our sandwiches were very good, as was the side of Kennebec Fries we got to share…

I enjoyed our lunch at Hopdoddy so much that I wanted to return there on my next visit to Austin.  This time it was just my daughter and me and we went to one located at 2438A W Anderson Lane.

My daughter’s favorite milkshake is the Nutella & Chocolate, while mine is the Caramel &  Salt so we had to get one of each…

And we both ordered our favorite Hop Doddy sandwich…

Thunderbird – Chicken, Tillamook Pepper Jack, Apple-Smoked Bacon, Avocado, Seared Poblanos, Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Mayo, Red Leaf Lettuce

So overall we gave Hopdoddy a rating of 4 1/2, subtracting 1/2 star because their food is a little high priced for an order-at-the-counter burger joint (our sandwiches ranged in price from $8.50 – $10.50 and the shakes were $6.00 each).  The reviewers on Trip Advisor also rated Hopdoddy  4 1/2 stars and ranked it #14 best of the Austin restaurants reviewed there.  Yelp reviewers though gave Hopdoddy 4 stars and ranked it #77 on their top 1000 list of Austin’s best restaurants.
