Hopdoddy Revisited

Hey!…We Ever Gonna Eat or What?

On our last full day in Austin we were checking off as many of the things that remained on our Wish List as possible.  One of those things was to visit 3 or 4 food trucks during our week in Austin.  So far we had only been to one, Torchy’s Tacos, and that was immediately after being picked up at the airport.  So our goal today was to have lunch from the food truck, Hey!…You Gonna Eat or What?  We first went to the food truck area where my daughter had last found it.  It was not there.  We then discovered it had moved to the Midway Food Park…far from where we currently stood.  I pleaded with my daughter to take us there and she gave in, so off we went to Midway, located at 1905 Capital of Texas Hwy.  By the time we got there, my other daughter had gone from hungry to “hangry”!  And the Hey!…You Gonna Eat or What? truck was nowhere to be found.  I looked up their phone number from their website (which said nothing about being closed) and called.  Got a recorded message saying they were closed for repairs.  UGH!!!

We had planned to go to South Congress after lunch for some gifts, so I quickly suggested a return visit to Hopdoddy.  This time though we all switched it up and ordered new (to us) sandwiches.

My Austin daughter, who usually gets the Thunderbird chicken sandwich, this time got the…

Llano Poblano Burger with Angus Beef, Apple-Smoked Bacon, Tilamook Pepper Jack, Seared Poblanos, Chipotle Mayo, Red Leaf Lettuce, White Onion, and Beefsteak Tomato

She liked it but still prefers the Thunderbird, which is what my other daughter ordered…

Thunderbird with Chicken, Tillamook Pepper Jack, Apple-Smoked Bacon, Avocado, Seared Poblanos, Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Mayo, and Red Leaf Lettuce

She wasn’t crazy about this and preferred what she had ordered the last time she was there, the Greek with lamb and feta.

I however, wanted to try something that neither I nor anyone else in my family had ever had at HopDoddy…

Magic Shroom Burger with Angus Beef, Texas Goat Cheese, Field Mushrooms, Mayo, Basil Pesto, Red Leaf Lettuce, White Onion, and Beefsteak Tomato

I thought I would really like this but I thought it just was okay.

We all though really liked the large-size order of Kennebec Fries we shared…

And we  also really liked the milkshakes.  They both ordered the…

Nutella & Chocolate Pretzel Shake

While I got my favorite, the…

Caramel & Sea Salt Shake

Both of these were very good, as usual.

So that just leaves our rating, which was slightly lower this time than last at 4 stars.  This matches up with the 4 stars given to them by Yelp reviewers but lower than the 4 1/2 from Trip Advisor plus their ranking of #14 best restaurant in Austin.
