Liberty Tree Tavern Lunch 2016

For a few years now the Liberty Tree Tavern has been my favorite Magic Kingdom full-service restaurant for lunch.  While I would still say that this statement is true, I would now need to add a caveat.  Liberty Tree Tavern is my favorite MK restaurant for lunch as long as they don’t remove the Colony salad and Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake from their lunch menu…as they have done with many of their long-time signature entrees.

Their new Lunch menu…

As you can see, the A la Carte section of their lunch menu now has only 3 entrees!?!? Gone is the New England Pot Roast that many loved.  Here is a photo of my son’s Pot Roast from our May 2015 lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern…

And while you can still get turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes as part of the All You Can Eat Patriot’s Platter…along with a whole lot of other food that you might not want  for $33.00! (now available at lunch)

Gone is the Pilgrims’ Feast with just turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes for $16.99, which is what my daughters shared during our last lunch at LTT in May 2015…

In addition, also gone are the Liberty Boys BLT, Fish & Chips, etc. While I was okay with their very short list of entrees since it still included my favorite Colony Salad, Hunter was not happy that his LTT favorite (the Pot Roast) was gone.  But I’m getting ahead of myself.  Let’s rewind and start at the beginning…our appetizer.

Sweet Corn Fritters with House-made Pepper Jelly

And a little closer look…

Liberty Tree used to have Fried Cheese as one of their appetizers.  This was pretty good, especially when it included both fried cheese curds and cheese sticks.  But I would have to say that this appetizer was equally as good, if not better.  The fritters were very good and the bed of creamed sweet corn was very tasty too.  So was the pepper jelly.  A great start to our meal!

Now for our entrees…

When we were seated and Paula (or maybe it was Hunter?) expressed her (or his) disappointment that the pot roast was no longer on the menu, we were told to ask our server about the Kids’ menu.  (wink, wink)  The reason being is that while the New England Pot Roast had been pulled from the adult menu, a smaller portion of this entree was still available on the Kids’ menu.  So that is what Hunter ordered…

Kids Pot Roast served with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans

He said this was great!  Perhaps he would have liked a little bigger portion size though, since almost immediately after lunch he was looking for a corn dog, lol.

As for Paula and I, we decided to share the Colony Salad, in hopes of saving room for the Ooey Gooey dessert.

And from a different angle…

Colony Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast (instead of Salmon), Washington Apples, Sweet Pecans, Applewood-smoked Cheddar, and Craisins Dried Cranberries, tossed with Field Greens in a Honey-Shallot Vinaigrette

You may have noticed that the menu only mentioned that this salad came with salmon.  No mention of the chicken that it always came with previously.  But we asked our server if we could substitute the chicken for salmon and it was not a problem.  Also of note is that my photo is of my half of this entree.  Paula received her own platter with an equal amount of salad and chicken.  So this entree was perfect for sharing.  I could not have eaten a full portion.  As for how it tasted, it was great as usual.  I really love this combination of ingredients…probably one of my favorite salads.  Delicious!

And because we shared the salad, Paula and I were also able to share one of my favorite WDW desserts…

Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake (Vanilla Cake with Gooey Toffee Filling, Caramel Sauce, and Vanilla Ice Cream

OOEY GOOEY PERFECTION!!

So we left quite satisfied…well, except for Hunter who I think was still a little hungry.  ;)
