Lucy’s Fried Chicken

Our next restaurant was an unexpected addition to our dining schedule…

My daughter’s employer was working on a joint project with Lucy’s for the upcoming Food & Wine Festival and she needed to do a short photo shoot there.  Since we were all hungry, we decided to have a late lunch there.

Lucy’s has four locations in Austin I believe.  We went to their restaurant at 5408 Burnet Road.  This was a very casual place, with picnic tables…

I enjoyed their chalkboard with the specials…

And I also really liked their light fixtures made from chicken wire…

This was a Monday which means Happy Hour all day at Lucy’s and the drink specials were $4 house margaritas and $1 Lone Star beer.  The three of us all had Margaritas

And another look…

They were large glasses, were plenty strong, and very tasty!

Now for some food.  There were several things we wanted to try on their menu, starting with their Cornbread served with tequila butter

And a closer view…

The cornbread had pieces of jalapeno I believe, which made it a little spicy but it was good.

Then were shared this, which looks like fried chicken…

But it’s not.  Do you know what this is?…

If you guess Deep Fried Deviled Eggs, you would be correct.  And here’s the proof…

These were a bit salty but still good.

Next one of my daughters ordered these oysters…

Austin Oysters with tequila butter, lime, chili sauce, and cotija cheese

And another view…

My daughter liked these.  I don’t like oysters but she pleaded with me to try one of these because she couldn’t eat the whole 1/2 dozen by herself.  So I tasted one and reconfirmed that I DO NOT LIKE OYSTERS!  Lol

Anyway, next we ordered some fried chicken to share…

4 piece mixed basket of fried chicken with a pickle and jalapeno

There was a breast, wing, thigh and leg…all small pieces.  Not the best fried chicken I’ve ever had but decent.

We also ordered and enjoyed this Mac ‘n Cheese

And I also ordered a side of Mexican Coke Sweet Potatoes

The girls said this looked like baby food but I thought they were tasty.

At this point we were beyond full and asked our very nice server for the check.  But along with the check he brought us this complimentary dessert…

Mason Jar Banana Pudding with old-fashioned custard, vanilla wafers, and bananas

Though we didn’t think we could eat another bite, after one spoonful of this we couldn’t stop ourselves until it was gone.  It was yummy!

And so, another impromptu meal that was successful.  The food was good and relatively inexpensive, the margaritas were good and happy hour priced, and the service was great.  So overall we rated our meal at Lucy’s 4 1/2 stars, which is much better than the 3 1/2 stars given by Yelp reviewers and a little better than the 4 given by Trip Advisor.  As for their ranking, on Trip Advisor they are #266 best of all the Austin restaurants and on Yelp only #853.
