Taste of Disney

It had been about 10 years since I’d dined at The Fountain, located on the first floor of the Dolphin. From what I remembered, this diner-style restaurant was pretty much the same as it was when I last ate there.

Their menu was similar to that of Beaches & Cream (at Disney’s Yacht & Club), however The Fountain’s menu seemed to have a few more offerings.

Under the MAINS section of the menu, Don ordered their…

Reuben Sandwich – Artisan Corned Beef, Pickled Mustard Seeds & Caraway Sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese, Russian Dressing, on Locally Baked Marble Rye Bread. Served with French Fries. – $20.00

To me this looked like the bread had been left on the grill a bit too long, but he thought it was great. Don gave his reuben sandwich a rating of 4 1/2, deducting 1/2 point because he thought it could have used some more dressing. This was something that probably could have been remedied by requesting a side of the Russian dressing but he didn’t say anything until later when I asked him to assess his meal. But anyway, he also gave his french fries a rating of 4 1/2 so he seemed quite satisfied with his meal.

As for me, I ordered from the DIP section of the menu, which included only this combo…

Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup – $18.00

I surprised myself by ordering this because I’m normally not a big fan of tomato soup…I’ll take or leave it. However, after the day I’d had so far I just wanted some comfort food and this combo seemed to fit the bill. The bread that was used in this sandwich gave it a slightly sweet flavor that went well with the American and Havarti cheeses used. I liked the grilled cheese sandwich enough to give it a rating of 4. The tomato soup, for me though, was just average and so I gave it an average rating of 3. I couldn’t eat it all so Don was more than happy to finish the soup for me. And he enjoyed the tomato soup more than I did, giving it a rating of 4 1/2.

When ordering our meal I wanted to try one of their specialty milkshakes but Don refused to share it with me. In the end, he was right because I wasn’t even able to finish my meal. As the saying goes, my eyes were bigger than my stomach.

Overall, this meal was perfectly fine. Since we were staying next door at the Swan it was very convenient. With so many other choices though (including the nearby Beaches & Cream with my much-loved No Way Jose sundae), The Fountain is not a restaurant I would go out of my way for.
