Lunch at Yorkshire County Fish Shop – April 2021

I got in the short line to place our order while Andrew found us a table in the outdoor Relaxation Station area next to the Fish Shop. In this photo of the Captain Hook topiary you can see this area in the background…

This was a very nice area with tables spread apart and shaded with umbrellas.

So here was the posted menu at the Fish Shop…

I got an order of Fish & Chips for Andrew…

It had been quite awhile since we’d had the fish and chips from the Fish Shop.  I had forgotten how good they were.  I’m not sure what type of mild flavored white fish it is.  I’ve heard/read many different  kinds, such as haddock, hake, cod, and even tilapia.  I don’t what it is, but I do know it’s perfectly cooked both inside and out. I really like the crispy batter that they use.  Though there was only one piece, it was a large piece, so I got to have a few bites.  The fish came with a generous portion of thick cut fries, which were also perfectly cooked and very tasty.

So the Fish Shop had one other entrée available, but not listed on their posted menu.  There were a couple of signs advertising it though on the counter…

I could see these pies sitting in the warmer/display case and thought they looked pretty good. So in the interest of trying something new for my blog review, I decided to give the Chicken & Mushroom Pie a try. Like the fish, it was also served with Chips (fries)…

Note: The pie with chips (fries) was $9.99 but you could just get the pie for $5.99.

This tasted like a chicken and mushroom pot pie, with the added benefit of being able to eat it with your hands, like a Hot Pocket.  The crust was flakey and buttery tasting and it was filled with pieces of chicken, mushrooms, and leeks in a creamy sauce/gravy.  While I liked it, it wasn’t quite as good as the fish.  So unless you aren’t a fan of fish, I wouldn’t recommend getting the chicken & mushroom pie instead of the fish.  But for those that don’t eat fish,, this is a good option and was very filling.  Plus it is $1.50 cheaper than the Fish & Chips.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that the Yorkshire County Fish Shop has a rating of 4 1/2 stars on both Yelp and TripAdvisor.  I would wholeheartedly agree with them.  Because their menu is so limited, I wouldn’t give it a perfect score of 5.  But as the saying goes, “It’s better to do a couple of things well than do many things poorly.”  The Yorkshire County Fish Shop does fish & chips well.
