North Italia

On a day in which my Austin daughter had to work, my other daughter and I headed to the Domain to do some shopping.  For lunch we decided to try North Italia…

Though we didn’t have a reservation we were seated immediately.  We even had our choice of eating inside or out.  It was a nice day so we chose to eat outside on their covered patio…

Then it took some time for us to decide what to order because there were several things on the menu that sounded good to us…

We couldn’t even decide on what to order as an appetizer.  She wanted the Zucca Chips and I wanted the White Truffle Garlic Bread…so we ended up ordering them both. Lol

But first came the complimentary basket of bread and sun-dried tomato butter…

We were hungry so ate way more of this than we should have given the amount of food that we ordered for the two of us.

And speaking of the food we ordered, let’s begin with the Zucca Chips…

I think this was the first time that I have had zucchini chips.  They were delicious and we both loved them!  Even though it seemed like we ate a lot of these, I think we only managed to eat about half because we also had this to eat…

White Truffle Garlic Bread with house made ricotta, mozzarella, grana padano, herbs

This was also very good but we were barely able to put a dent in it because we were trying to save some room for our entree.  The Special Pizza of the Day had sounded very good to both of us so that is what we ordered to share…

Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, red onion, mozzarella cheese and white sauce

This was pretty good.  The edges were nice and crispy, however the middle of the pizza crust was a little limp and undercooked.  We each had one piece and took the rest home for my other daughter to enjoy a few days later.

I also ordered a half portion of one of their salads for us to share…

And a close up…

1/4 of a Tuscan Kale Salad with crispy pancetta, charred grape, apple, pistachio, breadcrumbs, and parmesan vinaigrette

This was very good and the one-fourth of the full size salad was the perfect portion for each of us.

So even though we should have stopped right there, I made the mistake of looking at their dessert menu…

Although I had my eye on the Salted Caramel Budino, I knew my daughter would prefer the Tiramisu so that is what I ordered, with the hope of enticing her to eat some of it.

Tiramisu with Kahlua soaked-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone mousse

It was pretty good.  Not the best tiramisu I’ve ever had but it was good.

So overall we gave North Italia a rating of 4 1/2 stars, the same as what was given to them by Trip Advisor reviewers.  Also North Italia was ranked #58 best of all Austin restaurants reviewed on Trip Advisor.  Yelp reviewers only gave North Italia 4 stars though and ranked it #245.
