Six of us had Sunday brunch at Porter’s Ale House & Gastropub, located at 3715 S. 1st Street. Here was there Brunch menu as of September 4, 2016…
Between the 6 of us we tried 5 different entrees, but first we started with some Bloody Marys and Mimosas…
And we also ordered this to share…
Tater Tot Poutine with Mushroom Veloute, Ricotta, White Cheddar and a 5 Minute Egg
This was very good.
Now for our entrees, starting with my son’s…
Sweet Potato Hash with Chicken Confit, Brown Butter Hollandaise, Poached Eggs, Maple, and Toast Points
And another look…
He was disappointed with this. His main complaint was that it was too spicy. The spice overwhelmed all of the other flavors of this dish, including the maple.
My niece chose this…
French Toast Sticks with Apples, Crispy Pork Belly and Bourbon Maple Syrup
And another look…
While the apples and pork belly were good, the french toast sticks were overcooked.
My husband ordered the Omelet of the Day…
…which came with a salad.
The omelet was fine. Nothing special.
My daughter’s choice was the…
Brunch Burger – House Ground Burger with Bacon Jam, White Cheddar, and Fried Egg on a Toasted English Muffin, served with French Fries
And with the lid off…
The English muffin did not hold up well at all. She ended up having to eat this with a fork and knife. Not so good.
As for me, I ordered this…
Croque Madame with Smoked Ham, Swiss Cheese, Fried Egg and Beer Cheese Fondue, served with French Fries
And from another angle…
This was a sloppy mess with way too much of the cheese fondue.
So overall, other than the poutine, this brunch was nothing special. We would give Porter’s a rating of 3. However, Yelp reviewers rated it 4 stars and they received 4 1/2 stars from Trip Advisor. Porter’s rank on Trip Advisor is currently only #543 best of all Austin restaurants but Yelp ranked it much higher at #104.
