Via Napoli

The last meal that I had with my friends, Paula & Hunter, on this trip was at one of their favorite WDW restaurants, Via Napoli.

Here are photos of the Via Napoli menu as of November 2017…

There were also a couple of new things which were being advertised…

Although the Garlic Bread sounded pretty good, I wasn’t hungry enough to order it or any other appetizer and apparently neither were my friends because they also skipped the appetizers on this visit to Via Napoli.

Instead we all went straight to the entrees.

Now Via Napoli is known for its pizza, so pizza is what I always get here.  However we had already dined at Via Napoli earlier in this trip and had shared a pizza so I decided that this time I needed to try something else…

Lasagna Napoletana with Beef, Veal and Pork Ragu, Fresh Egg Pasta,  and Béchamel, baked in their signature wood-fired oven

And from another angle, as I tried my best to find an angle at which this looked appetizing…

Maybe it’s just me, but this just did not look good.  And sadly, though I normally love lasagna, I did not love this one.  First I thought the marinara sauce on top was too thin, plus there wasn’t nearly enough of it.  Also it could have used more cheese and sauce in between the layers of noodles and meat/bechamel, as this lasagna seemed a little dry and flavorless.

Paula seemed to enjoy her pasta dish though…

Penne Rosate con Pollo – Penne Pasta with Chicken, Tomato Cream Sauce, Peas, and Prosciutto

And of course, Hunter loved his Pepperoni Pizza

Paula & Hunter also ordered a dessert from this menu…

They chose the…

Zeppole di Caterina – Ricotta Cheese Fritters served with whipped cream and chocolate sauce

Notice how full the cone is in the picture of this dessert on their menu.  The fritters seem to be overflowing the cone.  Then see ours…

A good portion of the cone was empty.  I think there were only 5 fritters inside…for $14!!!

Plus the fritters weren’t even edible, as they were cold and stale tasting.  They tasted like they had been sitting around for hours or maybe even days.  Paula complained to a manager who stopped by our table and she took them away and brought out new ones, but they were just slightly better.  We’ve had these here many times before, but this time they were a big disappointment.

So based just on my food, I would rate this meal a 3…and that’s being generous.  Paula seemed happy with her pasta though and Hunter loved his pizza so that would bump up the overall rating for this meal to about a 4.  This same rating of 4 was given to Via Napoli by both Yelp and Trip Advisor reviewers.  As for its ranking on Trip Advisor, it is #377 of the more than 3,000 Orlando area restaurants reviewed there and narrowing it down to just the Disney World area it ranks #112.

My advice though regarding Via Napoli would be to stick with the pizza, because it’s always made-to-order, fresh and delicious…
