ABC Commissary Dinner – April 2024

We had been pleased with both of the meals we had had at ABC since they revamped their menu a few years ago. Therefore, I thought it would be a good choice for our group of 7 when we were in need of a quick service dinner at Hollywood Studios.

Let’s begin with the Gluten-free option chosen by Emily…

Chicken Club Sandwich – Gluten/Wheat Allergy Friendly – Marinated Chicken with Bacon, Provolone, Avocado Ranch, Lettuce, and Tomato served on an Allergy-Friendly Bun and served with choice of side (she chose French fries) – $12.99 (Price as of Jan. 2025 is $13.69)

NOTE: The other options for a side are Arugula-Farro Salad, Apple Slices or for an additional $2 you can get Buffalo Fries. Also there were only two other Gluten-free entrees available at ABC, their California Burger (plant-based) and the Mediterranean Salad (also the Salad with chicken added).

Emily said the gluten-free bun was nasty, as were the fries. The chicken was fine but not good enough to save her overall rating for her meal, which was only a 1.

She did though really enjoy her alcoholic beverage…

Happy Daze – Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Melon Liqueur, Banana Liqueur and Grenadine with Orange and Pineapple Juice – $14.00 (price as of January 2025 is $14.50)

Emily gave this a rating of 4 and said it was one of her favorite drinks of the trip. Andrew also tasted and rated her drink. He gave this a perfect rating of 5.

Don and I decided to share an entree and he let me choose…

Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese Sandwich – Grilled Sourdough toasted with Buffalo Chicken, Monterey, Provolone , Cheddar, and Cream Cheese served with a side of Buffalo Sauce and your choice of side. – $11.99 (price as of January 2025 is $12.79)

We had a difference of opinion on this sandwich. While I really liked it and gave it a rating of 4, Don didn’t care for the buffalo flavor and rated it only a 2. We didn’t think the fries were terrible (like Emily) but they definitely could have been crispier.

Two of our group ordered the…

Mediterranean Salad with Chicken – Marinated Chicken served over Mixed Greens with Tomatoes, Cucumber, Pepperocini, Kalamata Olives, and Feta Cheese tossed in a Mediterranean Vinaigrette and served with Hummus and Grilled Flatbread – $12.79 (price as of January 2025 is $12.99)

One of them rated this a 3 and the other a 4, so an average rating of 3 1/2. The pita bread and hummus were definitely a nice addition to have with this salad.

Jake’s choice was the…

This was the same Chicken Club Sandwich as what Emily had except this was their regular version (not gluten-free) so had a regular brioche bun. But even with the bun being a better, Jake’s rating of his sandwich was still only a 2. And he also rated the fries only 1 1/2. So overall we wouldn’t recommend this entree, either the gluten-free or regular version.

I think the best choice was made by Andrew…

Pork Carnitas Taco (Kid-size portion with one taco instead of two and without the avocado salsa verde and pickled onions that comes with the Adult portion) – Pork Carnitas on a Flour Tortilla served with Mexican Rice and Black Beans with Queso Fresco – $7.79 (no price change)

Note: The Adult portion of the entree is currently priced at $11.49.

He gave this a rating of 4. Getting the Kids portion was a great idea. It was plenty of food (unless you have a big appetite) for 2/3 of the price of the adult portion.

Both Jake and Andrew also got this adult beverage…

Watermelon Margarita – Patron Silver Tequila, Watermelon, Sweet-and-Sour, and Lime Juice – $17.00 (price as of January 2025 is $17.50)

Both of them rated their margarita a 4, but Andrew said Emily’s Happy Daze was even better. Plus the Happy Daze is currently $3.00 cheaper.

The last thing that some of our group shared was this dessert…

Mint-Chocolate Chip Cheesecake – $5.79 (not currently offered in January 2025) – Chocolate Cheesecake topped with Dark Chocolate Ganache and Whipped Mint-Chocolate Chip Cream

This received ratings of either 3 or 4, so an overall average of 3 1/2. I was one of the 4 ratings for this dessert, as I thought it was pretty good for a quick service dessert.

So overall we would recommend getting the pork carnitas tacos here. I’ve previously had the shrimp tacos and they are also good. I’m also a fan of the buffalo chicken grilled cheese, but if you don’t like the buffalo flavor (like my husband) then this sandwich is probably not for you. In addition, the alcoholic beverages are pretty good, although expensive for a pre-made cocktail poured from a dispenser and served in a plastic cup. But I suppose that comes with the territory.
