Capt. Cook’s October 2021 Lunch

We arrived at Capt. Cook’s at about 11:00 a.m. and they were still taking breakfast orders. We decided we liked their lunch options though so we placed a mobile order (using the Disney app on my phone) for lunch with an 11:25 Arrival (pick up) time. We were notified at 11:15 that our order was ready for pick up.

Andrew chose the…

Pulled Pork Nachos topped with Cheese, Spicy Mayonnaise, Pico de Gallo and Pineapple Salsa

I had had these before and thought they were delicious so encouraged Andrew to order them. Unfortunately they weren’t as good as I remembered them being. While I liked the house made kettle-style chips, Andrew didn’t. He felt they didn’t stand up well to all of the toppings and would have preferred regular tortilla chips. The white queso cheese/mayo sauce had some spice. Not a lot, but I didn’t remember it having much, if any spice before. The highlights for Andrew were the tangy, sweet pulled pork and the pineapple salsa (he’s a big fan of pineapple). It wasn’t enough to elevate his score much though. He gave these nachos only a 2 out of 5 stars.

I wanted to try something I hadn’t had here before…

Thai Coconut Meatballs – House-made All-Beef Chili Garlic Meatballs cooked in a Coconut Cream and served over White Rice

The sauce was creamy and sweet with some coconut flavor. The sticky rice was good. I gave this a higher score than the nachos. Rating 3/5

The surprise hit of our lunch was our shared dessert…

50th Celebration Cupcake with DOLE Whip Pineapple Center, topped with Tropical Fruit Salsa and a Pineapple Macaroon

This was a moist vanilla cupcake with pineapple Dole Whip custard filling in the center and buttercream frosting topped with graham cracker crumbs. The edible flower (though we didn’t eat it) on top held the tropical fruit salsa which consisted of bits of diced fruit (I think I tasted watermelon, mango and cantaloupe), as well as a tasty, bite-size pineapple macaroon. I liked that it wasn’t as hard as some of the other macaroons I’ve had at Disney World. The 50th anniversary medallion was edible too because it was made of white chocolate. We both really enjoyed this and gave it a 4/5 for its flavor and pretty presentation.

In the interest of full disclosure though, I was a bit frightened by the long list of ingredients on the cupcake’s label. I took a photo of it, but unfortunately it tore while in the process of opening the plastic container. I think you will still understand my concern when you see this though…

I guess my concern wasn’t enough to stop me from enjoying this cupcake but YMMV.

One more thing to add regarding Capt. Cook’s is a shout out for their outdoor seating area.  On a nice day (like the day we visited) this is a great place to enjoy a meal outdoor!
