La Cava del Tequila – April 2024

I suggested to our group that we make a stop at Epcot’s Mexico pavilion to get my favorite margarita from La Cava del Tequila. It didn’t take too much convincing. They were all for getting drinks to go from La Cava. So we waited in the line for our turn to order our drinks from the bar.

And here was our lineup…

My choice was the first one on the left, the La Cava Avocado Margarita with Tromba Blanco Tequila, Melon Liqueur, fresh Avocado, Agave Nectar and fresh Lime Juice served Frozen with a Hibiscus Salt Rim for $17.50. For those of you who have never tried La Cava’s famous Avocado Margarita, it is creamy, sweet and delicious. To me, it doesn’t taste like avocado but like melon with maybe a hint of banana (although there is no banana or banana liqueur in it). In my opinion this is the best margarita in the world, and not just Disney World. It again lived up to my expectations and therefore I gave it a perfect rating of 5. In looking at La Cava’s current menu (February 2025) I see that they now have a Dos Hombres Avocado Margarita with Dos Hombres mezcal added to the original version for a price of $19.50. Since I don’t like the smoky flavor of mezcal, I’m glad to see that you can still request the original version for the same price of $17.50.

To the right of my Avocado Margarita is Jake’s choice, which was The Cucumber Margarita with Tromba Blanco Tequila, Fresh Cucumber and Lime Juice, Abasolo Corn Whiskey, Rhubarb Bitters and a Tajin Chile-Lime Powder Rim for $17.00. He enjoyed this and gave it a rating of 4.

Moving to the right again is Becca’s choice, which is called the Maelstrom in honor of the former ride that was once located next door at the Norway pavilion. The Maelstrom Margarita has Libelula Joven Tequila, Lime Juice, Combier Orange Liqueur, Ginger-Passionfruit Cordial, Ilegal Mezcal, and Homemade Habanero Infused Rum for $18.00. Wow, this had a mix of five different alcohols. I probably would have had to take a nap after drinking this but Becca seemed to take it in stride.

The last margarita pictured on the right is Andrew’s The Wild One with Centinela Blanco Tequila, Alma Finca Orange Liqueur, Ginger Rum, Corn Passion Fruit Cordial, Lime Juice, Dos Hombres Mezcal, Grenadine and a Hibiscus Salt Rim for $18.00. This was another one with five different liquors. He didn’t like this combination, especially the smoky flavor that the mezcal added to the mix. This was his first time trying mezcal and will likely be his last. Andrew gave his Wild One Margarita a rating of only 2.

Emily had been to La Cava earlier in the day and had chosen this…

The Acapulco Colada with Mocambo Aged Rum, Gracias a Dios Pina Mezcal, Nixta Corn Liqueur, Kalani Coconut Liqueur, and Pina Colada Cream for $17.00

NOTE: I just noticed that this is currently on the menu (as of February 2025) at the Mexican quick service restaurant at Epcot, La Cantina de San Angel, for the same price of $17.00. However, it has only 3 ingredients (rum, corn liqueur, and pina colada cream) instead of 5, so no mezcal. That sounds like an improvement to me.

Anyway, Emily doesn’t really like tequila so I wasn’t surprised to see that she didn’t have a margarita. And I wasn’t surprised that she had a drink with rum because she is a rum girl, like her mom. But unlike her mom, she actually seemed to like the mezcal because she gave this drink a rating of 4.

So in conclusion, if you want a margarita at Disney World that is not pre-mixed and poured from a dispenser, I highly recommend a visit to La Cava del Tequila. Also if you want a margarita that is more unusual than the typical flavors of margaritas (i.e. Classic, Strawberry) that you can get at almost every Mexican restaurant, then La Cava is your place. Salud!
