Oga’s Cantina – April 2024

Although four of our group had visited Oga’s at least once before, we had three newbies with us. Since I felt that this is “must-do at least once” experience, I booked it for our group of 7 while making our other dining reservations at the start of our 60 day window. I believe this original reservation was for sometime during the late afternoon. Then a few days before our trip I read that Oga’s actually still takes reservations for about an hour after Hollywood Studios closes. I thought this would be great for two reasons. First, you would not be using valuable park time to visit this bar. Then there is the bonus of being able to exit the park after all of the crowds are gone. Since our group was all adults (so had no worries about keeping kiddos out very late), I decided this would be ideal for us and booked a 10:15 p.m. reservation for us at Oga’s.

FYI: Hollywood Studios closed that night at 9:30.

When we checked in for our reservation I asked if our group could be seated at one of the few booths they have. Unfortunately they said there weren’t any available, so we instead were led to a standing table.

Here was our group, except for Don, who took the photo…

Since we pretty much filled up this table (I think it technically could have comfortably fit 8 people), there were no other guests added to our group. During my previous visits at Oga’s, I was part of a party of only 2, so we joined other guests at one of these large standing tables. During their busy times they pack the people in pretty tight at these tables. Or at least they did before Covid. Not sure if they still do, since this was my first visit here since 2019.

Next, here are some menu photos…

I have to admit that I was pretty tired by this time, so decided against having an alcoholic beverage. I almost ordered the Cliff Dweller (one of their non-alcoholic drinks), but at the last minute switched to this instead…

Oga’s Obsession – Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, Cotton Candy, Blueberry Popping Pearls, with a Bursting Dried Fruit Mixture – $8.00 (price as of January 2025- $8.25)

Since this was listed on the menu as a “Provision without Alcohol”, I should have known that this was not a drink. But in my sleepy state I thought I was ordering a Lemonade topped with some blueberry boba balls and pop rocks. Instead it was more like a jello shot minus the alcohol, lol. The combination of jello, boba balls (aka popping pearls) and pop rocks was a weird mix of textures for me. Perhaps this would be fun for a kid but not really something I enjoyed. I would give it a rating of only 2. Next time I will try the Cliff Dweller or have the Blue Bantha again if I’m not wanting an alcoholic beverage. I’ve had the Blue Bantha (Blue Milk, which tastes like fruity coconut milk) before here and liked it.

Don wanted an alcoholic beverage but didn’t want to pay $18 or more for a cocktail. So he chose one of the Beers on Tap, Gold Squadron Lager from Blue Point Brewing Co. At this time the 4 beers on their menu were all $14.50, but as of January 2025 they are now $15.50. The menu description listed flavor notes of lavender and plum for his lager. I asked Don if he could taste the lavender and plum and he responded, “Umm, yea sure.” Lol

His rating for the Gold Squadron Lager was a 4.

The other 5 of our group all chose a cocktail (known here as a “Concoction with Alcohol”)…

From left to right these are: T-16 Skyhopper, Fuzzy Tauntaun, Yub Nub and Bespin Fizz (which two people ordered, but only one was included in the photo lineup)

The T-16 Skyhopper was a combination of Half & Half, Kiwi Juice, Tito’s Vodka and Bols Melon Liqueur. It was priced at $18.50. I got to taste the Skyhopper and it reminded me a little of a creamy (not frozen) avocado margarita from Epcot’s La Cava del Tequila but with vodka instead of tequila. This was probably because of the common ingredient of melon liqueur. While it was definitely not at the level of the avocado margarita (which I love), it was good. However, it unfortunately is no longer on Oga’s menu. The Skyhopper and Slug Slinger have been replaced by three new cocktails, per their January 2025 online menu. So I guess the Skyhopper was not as popular as the other cocktails that our group chose.

And speaking of their popular drinks, Emily chose what is probably one of their most popular and most unique, the Fuzzy Tauntaun (the yellow cocktail with a foam topping that is shown in our photo). This drink had a combination of Ketel One Botanical Peach & Orange Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps Liqueur, Orange Juice with Tangerine, and Pure Cane Sugar. The unusual part of this drink is that it is topped with “Buzz Button Tingling” Foam, which will cause your lips to tingle. When I had this drink during my first ever visit to Oga’s, I was too busy looking around at my surroundings to fully read the menu description so completely missed the “tingling” foam part. When my lips started feeling weirdly numb and tingly after a few sips of my Fuzzy Tauntaun, I was a little concerned. Thankfully Andrew had more thoroughly read the menu and filled me in on the “tingly” part of my drink. So anyway, Emily’s comments regarding this drink, “Delightful, very tasty! But I love peach.” She gave the Fuzzy Tauntaun a rating of 4.

Just like his previous visits to Oga’s, Andrew again chose the Yub Nub. In the photo, this is the one served in the fancy souvenir mug. If you choose to take the mug home with you then this drink was $48.00, or $17.50 if you leave the mug behind. So in other words, the mug costs about $30.00. The Yub Nub had a combination of Malibu Pineapple Rum, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, Citrus Juices (Pineapple, Orange, and Lime), and Passion Fruit Syrup. Andrew again enjoyed his Yub Nub and gave it a rating of 4. I have tasted the Yub Nub and personally I would have preferred it without the spiced rum. While I do enjoy a Captain & Coke (Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum and Coke), I don’t really like the combination of spiced rum and fruit juices. Of course, as always, YMMV.

The other two of our group both ordered a Bespin Fizz (the red drink in the photo). This had Bacardi Superior Rum, Yuzu Fruit Puree, Pomegranate Juice, and White Cranberry Juice. It was supposed to have a cloud swirl on top (per the menu description) but their drinks seemed to be missing the cloud effect (aka dry ice). This was the highest priced of our drinks, costing $20.50 (as of January 2025 it is now $21.50). I’m not a fan of either pomegranate or cranberry juices so this drink sounded unappealing to me. However, the two that ordered this thought it was fine.

I took a couple more photos during our visit to Oga’s. First is a photo of the DJ, Rex…

His storyline is that he is a former Star Tours pilot who was reprogrammed to be Oga’s DJ, playing the latest hits from around the galaxy. Though he is not interactive with his audience, he is still adds a bit of fun to this Star Wars-themed experience.

And here is a photo I took of the bar area, just a few minutes before we left…

As you can see, there were very few people left at the bar.

I think you are usually allotted 45 minutes at Oga’s before they want you out in order to free up the limited space for other guests. We were done with our round of drinks and paid our bill in about 30 minutes though.

One other side note to add: When we were there in April 2024 they had only two food items on their menu, the Happabore Sampler (aka as a meat & cheese plate) and Batuu Bits (veggie chips served with a chermoula dip). Neither of these sounded particularly appealing so we stuck to just our drinks. However, I see on their menu now that they have added to their Snack options a Chorizo Naan Flatbread for $17.00 and an Umbaran Cheese Roll (pretzel bun stuffed with herbed cheese served with a honey-mustard dipping sauce) for $12.00. These sound like some more interesting options.

So overall we enjoyed our time at Oga’s Cantina. It was fun for me to see the newbies of our group experience Oga’s for the first time. While the drinks are pretty good, they are also pretty expensive. They are even more expensive now than when we were there just 9 months ago. Also keep in mind, these are pre-made cocktails so no changes can be made. Whatever the menu description says is what you will get, no additions or subtractions. So in my opinion, this immersive experience is worth the money at least once, especially if you are a Star Wars fan. However, I’ve been there three times now, so I think I’m good with that.

But to finish this review on a high note, we left Oga’s at about 10:45 and made our way through an empty Galaxy’s Edge. Reminder that this was more than an hour after the park had closed at 9:30.

This was a pretty cool way to end our evening at Hollywood Studios. So with that in mind, I would recommend making an after park closing reservation at Oga’s if you are planning to visit anyway and don’t mind the late night.
