If you are a guest of the Contemporary Resort and find yourself in need of an early morning coffee, then this coffee bar should fit the bill. This is especially true if you are a fan of Joffrey’s Coffee.
With an opening time of 6:00 a.m., it is available to satisfy your coffee fix one hour earlier than the Contemporary’s quick service restaurant, Contempo Cafe. It does though close at 1:00 p.m. so very limited hours.
In addition to Joffrey’s gourmet coffee (hot, cold, and frozen) and tea, hot chocolate, and smoothies, they also offer an assortment of pastries…
But what really caught my eye was the Cheese Danish. I used to be able to get the most delicious cheese danish at Starring Rolls Cafe in Hollywood Studios. Since it closed I’ve been in an ongoing search at Disney World for a danish as tasty as that one…
So I decided to give the Contemporary Ground’s version of the Cheese Danish a try…
This looked different than the round danish I was used to but it still looked promising. Unfortunately it was not as good as it looked. The crust was very chewy and tough and the cream cheese filling was not as soft as the one from Starring Rolls. So once again this was a fail in my Cheese Danish search. I gave it a score of 2.
Along with my danish I also ordered a Caramel Latte (other available flavors were Mocha, Hazelnut, and Irish Cream)…
Unlike the danish, the latte was very good. I gave it a 4.
I also got a few things for Andrew…
In addition to Hot Chocolate, he also had a Chocolate Chip Muffin…
Both were good, but nothing special. He gave both a 3.
Also of note, when I paid I used my Disney VISA card and the server gave me 10% discount, which was a nice surprise.
I stopped back there the next day around noon when we returned from Animal Kingdom. This time I wanted something cold to drink so their Smoothies sounded appealing…
I chose the Flamingo Frost Smoothie…
This had a blend of Pineapple Juice, Strawberry, Banana and Yogurt. It was good, but again nothing special. However I had an unfriendly server who seemed annoyed about having to make my smoothie. Perhaps she had just cleaned the blender in preparation of going home as soon as the clock struck 1:00 and I foiled her plan? I mean it was only about an hour before closing time. Haha! Anyway, I wasn’t surprised that she did not give me the 10% Disney Visa discount like I had been kindly given (without being asked) by another server there the previous morning. So the less than friendly service left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth when drinking that smoothie, Consequently I gave it a 3.
So the only hit from my two visits to Contemporary Grounds was the latte, which makes sense since this is a Joffrey’s coffee bar after all. If I ever find myself at the Contemporary again between the hours of 6:00 and 1:00 I might get another latte here. I’ve heard a lot about their Shakin Jamaican Cold Brew though so I might give that a try instead. Of course I could also get these same things at any of the many Joffrey’s locations in the parks.
